The Environmental Club is focused on making the RBR community more environmentally aware. They participate in the Clean Ocean Action Beach Sweeps, The American Littoral Societies Dune Grass Restoration Project, Arbor Day tree sale, support the RBR recycling program, conduct a printer cartridge recycling program, in addition to an Earth Day PSA campaign.
Clean Ocean Action Beach Sweeps offer citizens the opportunity to give back to their local marine environment, as well as become citizen scientists for the day. It’s not only about cleaning up the beaches, it’s about collecting data to help reduce sources of pollution. Volunteers record all of the information that is collected so it can be analyzed and published in annual reports. The RBR Environmental Club collected and recorded over 1,000 pieces of litter at the 2017 Beach Sweeps.
This year we will be participating in American Littoral Societies Dune Grass Restoration Project. Participants will stay after school on March 1st. for a presentation by the Littoral Society and to get their plants. The planting date will be announced at the presentation.
Last years Environmental Club did some great work protecting Sea Bright from future storms. The students were given dormant dune grass plants to bring home and raise for 1 month. They planted their plants on a newly established dune systems to hold them in place during storm conditions. The project was hosted by the American Littoral Society and all of the students that participated had a great time.

Liberty LNG is Back - Same Project, Closer to New York
The federal government announced that Liberty Natural Gas is again trying to place hazardous LNG Terminals off the coast of New York and New Jersey. Essentially the same project vetoed by New Jersey Governor Chris Christie in 2011 in a different location and with a different name, Liberty's latest attempt to invade the NY/NJ Bight is met with vehement opposition in the coastal community. The "Port Ambrose" project would be 13 miles off the coast of Sandy Hook, NJ and 17 miles southeast of Jones Beach, NY.
